One of the GOATs

The Wilson Pro Staff line is one of the most iconic and storied racquet series in tennis history, known for its precision, feel, and classic control-oriented performance. Used by legends like Pete Sampras, Roger Federer, and Stefan Edberg, the Pro Staff features a thin beam, head-light balance, and braided graphite construction, making it a favorite among advanced players who prioritise touch and accuracy over power.

Over the years, Wilson has refined the Pro Staff while staying true to its heritage. Recent models, such as the Pro Staff v14, incorporate FortyFive° carbon technology for improved stability and pocketing while maintaining the classic signature crisp and connected feel.

Made in St. Vincent (1983–1991)

Unlike later models produced in Chicago, Taiwan, and China, the early Pro Staff 85 was manufactured in St. Vincent and the Grenadines in Wilson’s small, high-quality factory. The craftsmanship and production standards were extremely high, resulting in tighter weight and balance tolerances and was generally slightly heavier than later models (~12.6–12.8 oz strung).

Many pros swore by the St. Vincent Pro Staff 85, including:

    • Pete Sampras (used it his entire career, painted as different models)
    • Jim Courier
    • Stefan Edberg
    • Chris Evert

Distinctive Production Markings

The St. Vincent models had specific visual cues, such as:

    • A red primer under the paint (visible when chipped).
    • A bumperless design in early models.
    • A more squared-off grip shape.
    • A unique “Made in St. Vincent” sticker inside the throat.
